DRIVERS AT the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra have expressed worry about the number of hours they have to stay in traffic before getting to the main station.

The traffic is as a result of the on-going construction work for a new ultramodern interchange by the current Mahama-led National Democratic Congress administration.

In order for the construction work to be completed, there have been some road diversions which have forced drivers to stay in traffic for hours before getting to the station causing discomfort to both drivers and passengers.

When the DAILY HERITAGE visited the location, it was observed that vehicles in front of the Vodafone office at Circle to the main station were stranded for several hours with the traffic moving at a snails pace.

A driver who spoke to the paper who only gave his name as Apraku said the traffic had made work difficult and the situation is making them lose money.

We lose a lot of money. Maybe there is a load at the station that we have to go and pick, but we cannot go because of this heavy traffic that we have to encounter before getting to the station, he stated.

Bemoaning the situation, he further lamented that some drivers who dont belong to the Circle Kaneshie station are rather benefitting, saying, if the passengers are waiting for vehicle and it is not coming, some drivers who are not members of the station come and load which is unfair.

He as a matter of urgency urged authorities and the contractor involved to speed up work to ensure that they have some comfort.

Another driver at the station said the construction work had made their work disorganized and expressed worry at the current situation.

It has affected us a lot. The road has become one way and passengers are no longer coming to board our vehicles. If you go one trip then you cannot go again, he told the paper.

He added that they no longer know their fate at the station, saying, They are sacking us at the station. They are working at the station and we don't have a place to park our vehicles.

He further called on the authorities to find an alternative for them while they speed up their activities in order to make life easy for them.
