Spokesperson for the embattled 12 Labor Unions, Mr. Reynolds Tenkorang believes the meeting with the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations yesterday to iron out their differences has shown a mark of shame for Industrial relations in Ghana.
According to him, every negotiation pertaining to the tier two funds management is a fiasco as government through the Ministry of Employment and Labor Relations has not shown any preparedness to agree on a proposition on the tier two funds management.
Speaking to Fiifi Boafo, the Host of Oman Fms Morning Show, Mr. Tenkorang said it was a useless venture for the Labor Unions to honor the invitation of the Minister as after discussion on the proposal, the Minister rejected it with the excuse that the issue is before the court.
He revealed that their meeting with the Minister yesterday was intended to bring the issue for out-of-court settlement after proposal agreement had been reached; but to him the invitation of the Minister was one of the series of lies of the government over the tier two pension schemes.
He added that the Labor Unions have counter sued the government on the contract with Pension Alliance Trust (PAT) because to him, it is unlawful for the government to force the Fund Manager on the Labor Unions.
Government has made its mind that it is not prepared to discuss any issue with us concerning the tier two pension schemes. Yesterday was a day of shame for industrial relations parties in Ghana; we were ashamed that we have to move from our various places of work to meeting the Ministerit was a useless venture that we went to meet the Minister; we are in court praying that the court will order for independent auditor to investigate the tier two funds at the Bank of Ghana. We want the court to order NPRA to transfer our money from the temporary account to our account; it is unlawful for the money to be in the temporary account for long.for now we dont have any discussion with government except to proceed to court to fight the issue, he revealed.
Stating the reason for their persistence to manage their tier two funds, Mr. Tenkorang said the Labor Unions are aware of governments failure to manage the various social intervention programs it has introduced; hence their believe that the tier two funds will not be safe with a fund manager imposed on them by the government.
If the government says it has witnessed many countries which have failed to manage their pension schemes, we also have witnessed how SADA, GYEEDA, SUBA and NHIS have poorly being managed in the country; this government doesnt have any good record to manage our funds for us and thats why we are insisting that we want to appoint a private company we trust to manage our funds. The money is not with us for government to think that we will squander the funds; the funds will be used for treasure bills from the Bank of Ghana, he fumed.
