A miracle is really the only way to describe little Arnela’s survival. It is unbelievable how God has made the adorable girl recuperate so quickly after the rather nasty and horrific experience she underwent a little over a week ago.
Latest Reports received by Peacefmonline.com indicates that the two year girl, who captured the attention of Africa and the rest of the world after her tortuous treatment at the hands of her nanny went viral, is now doing very well and has even been discharged from hospital in Uganda.
Arnela is currently at home with her parents.
In a recent video chanced upon by Peacefmonline.com after she was discharged, she appears timid and not her usual bubbly self despite the presence of her relatives and age mates.
On Monday, the country’s Youth and Children Affairs Minister, Ronald Kibuule, visited Arnela's family at their Naalya home.
“My children watched the video and insisted on seeing your daughter. I have not slept or concentrated on work since I watched the clip on social media. I am happy God saved her,” he is quoted by the Ugandan Daily Monitor as saying.
Whiles condemning the maid’s action, he counselled parents to conduct proper background checks on people they intend employing as domestic staff to take care of their children.
The Ugandan Minister, speaking to the video of the girl’s abuse, gave the assurance that the government will soon "design a legal and policy framework to regulate maids and other domestic staff because they are unprofessional."
"We want to put in place basic professional requirements so that companies that recruit maids are registered and maids who are exploited and abused by their bosses, too, have protection...I am happy to learn that she is in Luzira. I thought she was at large; I was going to put personal money to ensure she is apprehended so she faces the law. This is unacceptable. It is abominable. I shall keep in touch with the family and follow this to its logical conclusion,” he said.
Meanwhile, Arnela’s baby-sitter cum torturer Jolly Tumuhiirwe is still in Luzira and billed to make an appearance in court in a few days time after her initial charge of child battery was upped to attempted murder.
