The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) yesterday, disconnected about 20 houses in some parts of Accra, for engaging in illegal connections.
Communities visited were Dansoman, Agege, Kaneshie Zongo Junction, Korle Bu and Chorkor.
Residents of those houses have been spotted using unmetered pipe-borne water without paying.
The Accra West District Commercial Officer of GWCL, Ashiley Joseph, who led a team from the Ghana Police Service to carry the exercise, said the residents of the communities were involved in rampant illegal connections.
He noted that while some paid below the normal rates, others did not pay anything, resulting in huge losses to the company.
Mr Ashiley noted that the company lost about GH¢20,000 through the illegal connection of water in the district, noting that the practice was rife in those areas because they were slums.
He said those involved would be made to face the law to serve as deterrent to others.
