The Private University Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG); an assemblage of students from the various private universities in Ghana has successfully ended its 9th annual National Delegates Conference.
The five days conference took place at the Valley View University in Accra. It was under the theme Raising Critical and Problem-Solving Leaders to Impact Generations, the Role of Private Universities.
Over 800 students from about 21 universities converged to deliberate on critical issues concerning the welfare of the private university student in Ghana as well as the impact of critical national state policies on the student in a private university.
The students resolved to continue dialoguing with the government for solutions to their teething challenges.
Activities that took place during the congress include a Fulfill your dream summit and conference; a talk on campus relationship; as well as a dinner and a health screening session. The students also had fun with aerobics and gym workout sessions, as well as a trip to the Sajuna Beach. The delegates Congress was also used to officially launch a new initiative of the Association called PUSAG Associates- It is aimed at bringing all former National Executives together to strengthen PUSAG.
The Congress climaxed with a keenly contested election of new National Officers to drive the associations affairs for the next one year.
Mr. Richard Odame of Zenith University College was declared the new President elect for PUSAG for the 201516 academic year after he garnered a total of 223 votes to beat his closest contender, Isaac Jay Hyde of the Methodist University College who only managed to get some 86 votes. Mr. Odame is taking over from Mr Mohammed Suparu of Wisconsin University.
In his victory speech, Mr. Odame promised to honor his campaign promise of rebranding PUSAG with innovative ideas. He promised to among others take PUSAG on an entrepreneurship tour over the next one year so they can raise some good money for their activities.
The polls were generally peaceful as Police officers detailed to maintain peace and order virtually had nothing to do excerpt to watch the enthusiastic students in amazement as they peacefully went through all their activities without breaking a feather.
Many have congratulated PUSAG for achieving this feat especially at a time when student elections have been characterized by party politics, confusions and petty quarrels leading to the postponement of a couple of them.
