Some twenty-four teachers from the Agona West District of the Central Region Monday morning picketed at the offices of the Controller and Accountant Generals Department (CAGD) in Accra over the deletion of their names from governments payroll.
Twenty-two of the teachers who are from the Nsaba Presby Senior High School arrived at the premises of the CAGD around 6am after realising that their September salaries had not been paid them.
According to them, when they sought to find out from their district office why they had not been paid, they were told that they were unknown teachers, thus their names had been deleted as part of governments efforts to clean the payroll of ghosts.
In an interview on Citi FM, the Senior House Master of the Nsaba Presby Senior High School, Mr Robert Enison said, We called to find out and they said we are unknown teachers. So we decided to come here to tell them that we are not ghosts, we are human beings.
According to him, officials of the CAGD have given them assurances that their names would be reactivated on the payroll and that their salaries would be paid them at the end of October.
He, however, served notice that in a weeks time, we will send someone over to verify."
