The Eastern Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO),  Ransford Owusu Boakye, has assured adequate distributing of relief items to victims of the dynamite explotion.

He said distribution starts from Tuesday,29th December 2015 though they are overwhelmed by the number of persons affected by the disastor at Piabo in the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region last Wednesday.

According to him, the explosion has killed one person and left 12 others injured while rendering over 1,225 residents homeless for three days now since they started the search, but he believes that would increase.

He said in an interview with Citi news that the distribution of items to the victims has taken them some days, due to some check-ups which need to be done by their outfit before the distribution starts, and also the huge numbers of people affected have made the search very tedious.

“You have to assess the situation, the needs of the victims, before you can go in with any kind of relief. The magnitude is so huge that it has taken our men 4 days now, and as I speak now some of them are still on the field assessing the situation,” he said.

He noted that; “If you look at the houses that were affected, we have recorded almost 1,225 people displaced but the number has increased. We hope to complete the assessment by the close of today and go in with relief items on Tuesday.”

The affected victims are for now staying with family and friends after refusing to stay at St. Martins Secondary School and the Catholic Youth Organisation at Nsawam found for them as a result of making the work of NADMO, their identification and the distribution of items easy.
