Two fraudsters have been apprehended by the police in Accra, for inducing some students writing the West African Senior High School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE), to part with sums of money.

The police say they will prosecute the two men, Wilfred Danso, 30, who described himself as a blogger, and Edem Fiadonu, 31, a consultant, on the charge of extortion.

The two posed as itinerant preachers, pretended to pray for the students to make high grades during the examination, and asked them to seal their prayers by sowing seed.

They managed to defraud some candidates from the Labone Senior High School and Presbyterian Boys Senior High School at Legon, of GH₵3,200.

The Public Relations Officer of the Accra Regional Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Effia Tenge confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times, that the suspects entered the schools without the knowledge of the authorities.

“They preached the gospel to the students, giving them hope that they would pass their examinations, and then took monies from them as a seed.”

She said that investigations by the Nungua Police revealed that the suspects had been operating for some time now.

ASP Effia said after preaching, the suspects asked the students to “sow seed to be able to pass their examinations.”

She said Fiadonu was arrested on April 22, and led the police to arrest Danso at his hideout.

She urged students to alert their school authorities of people who contact them for certain activities in the school.

ASP Tenge advised examination candidates to study hard to enable them to pass their examinations, instead of resorting to cheaper ways of attaining success.
