President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Cape Coast of his government's readiness to complete the Kotokuraba Market soon.

Construction of the market has been one of the promises of the Mills/Mahama government to the indigenes of Cape Coast.

Two years ago, a civil society group in Accra, the Women on a Mission (WOM) slammed President John Mahama for failing to address issues relating to the market in his State of the Nation Address.

They described the President's State of the Nation Address as "one of the worst ever the country has witnessed" and wondered why he had failed to honour his promise.

Addressing a gathering at Cape Coast in the Central Region after the President's commissioning of an ultra-modern 15000 capacity stadium on Tuesday, President John Mahama says the Kotokraba Market will be completed by three months.

According to him, he was in consultation with the contractors and without any shred of doubt, guaranteed the people that the market will be fully constructed and opened to the vendors by July this year.

“I have spoken with the contractors and the engineer. They say it will be completed by three months. It’s left with three months and we will complete the entire work," President Mahama said.

The facility, which was expected to be completed in June 2016, will comprise shops, banks, hospitals and schools.

It will also have a car park, an office block, a drainage system and walkways to ensure the free movement of traders and customers.

An architectural design for the proposed Kotokuraba market at Cape Coast was on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 presented to the Mayor of Cape Coast by Mr Ekow Sam, the Architect of the project.

The project which is being financed with a concessionary loan from the Chinese government, will also receive support from the Central government and the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
