Acting General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic party, Freddie Blay, has justified the actions of some party activists who have been on rampage in the past week.
The party sympathizers have in the past few days locked up offices, seized toll booths, and vandalized state property across the country in retaliation to similar acts perpetrated by the NDC government in 2009.
While senior political figures and scores of Members of Parliament condemn the acts and call for swift response from the Police, acting Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has come to the defence of the rampaging youth describing their action as a move to ‘protect state property’.
According to Freddie Blay, the move by the rampaging youth is a right one aimed at protecting state property and ensuring that ‘looting’ in some state agencies stops.
“…at the harbour, people are stealing cars. People are carrying away items that should attract duties and so forth, containers being taken away without going through the right process”, he said.
He quizzed, “If we see people stealing cars from the harbour, are you suggesting that we should wait and go and call the Police?”
The rampaging youth invaded the Tema Habour in the early hours of Monday demanding to be given control of some key installations there. They also locked down offices of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIS), Youth Employment Authority (YEA), and the National Disaster Management Authority (NADMO) in Tamale.
In 2009, supporters of the then NDC government carried out similar acts after winning power.

THIS IS ABSOLUTE REB-BISH AND VERY UNFORTUNATE
I think there was a spirit of war in NPP leaders and because they won, and that war did not materialized, the evil spirit is still pushing them to make this stupiidd statement that can cause reprisal attack and lead to the kind of war Satan wanted in Ghana. Evil minded individuals. As if all workers in Ghana are ndc member. How ediot can a chairman of government in power party be. This stoopidity is what send ndc into opposition. Npp have started their stoopidity so early.
When you throw ball at wall, it bounces back to you. Let us hope that you will live longer to get all the answers to your statement.
Ah, Mr. Honourable, no you can do better than this. You have seriously confused me. Please, revise your notes. we beg you.
Please, you are statesman and a lot of young people are listening to you. There is no need justifying such actions. We understand joblessness among the youth breeds such terrible act but it should in no way be tolerated if we want to create a good society. Granted that people are ***barred word*** in these institutions, are these youth law enforcers? Can't they report those people to right authorities? I am also wondering why police can't arrest these people. I don't know when we can have strong institutions and not strong men like Obama said.
Is this man the acting General Secretary or Acting Chairman? ?
Having folks like this guy at the helms of affairs will not augur well for our country. A man of your caliber should have churned wisdom, instead, you are spewing trash. Don't forget the items involved are state properties and we have state-designated authorities to deal with that. Please, Mr. Blay, use your brains.
This is a MOST UNFORTUNATE statement to come from the Chairman of the ruling party, NPP. Are we to countenance LAWLESSNESS because of change of political power? By this defense of lawlessness is the Chairman saying there are no legal means to resolve whatever challenges there are in keeping government property safe? WHAT IS WRONG IS WRONG NO MATTER WHO DOES IT.
IN MY WHOLE LIFE NEVER HAVE I ENCOUNTERED AN INTELLECTUAL LUNATIC LIKE THIS MAN CALL BLAY.IS THE RAMPAGING NPP YOUTH THE SECURITY AGENCIES TO PROTECT STATE PROPERTY?
SICK! When did NPP youth turn into NDC youth? Society is sick because of poverty.Must be condemn.Next time again. Poer corrupts absolutely.
