The Czech Ambassador to Ghana Margita Fuschova has paid a courtesy call on Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul to discuss ways of strengthening relations between the two countries.

They talked about how the Czech Republic can assist the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in the areas of defence and security, defence industries, modern equipment and medical supplies, as well as training of personnel.

The envoy said her country was interested in equipping the Ghana Armed Forces in technology transfer, study in Czech Republic by Ghanaian military personnel and improvement in the lives of Ghanaian military personnel.

She also expressed the commitment of her country in priming the Defence Ministry to transform the shoe factory in Kumasi to a modern one.

She asked the minister to reconsider an earlier Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation between the two countries and review areas where necessary.

She said, “Czech investors are ready to come to Ghana for business.

The envoy traced the relationship between the two countries to the first republic and said that her visit to the Square was therefore to open doors to the relationship between the two countries and revive the MoU.

She extended an invitation to the minister to visit her country to see what they could do together.

Hon Nitiwul, on his part, acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the two countries and said Ghana was appreciative of the Czech government’s assistance over the years.

He said the Akufo-Addo administration was focused on improving housing for the Armed Forces, training of Air Force pilots and other technical staff and actualizing the one district-one factory concept.

On the latter, Hon Nitiwul said the defence industries programme was of great interest to government and hoped the Czech Republic would help in that area.
