President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday joined thousands of mourners to observe the one week funeral rites of the late Mr. Akenten Appiah-Menkah, an eminent politician and industrialist, at a ceremony in Kumasi.
Amongst the high-powered delegation present to commiserate with the bereaved family was Vice-President Alhaji Dr. Mahammudu Bawumia.
The late Mr. Appiah-Menkah died on 13th February, 2018, at the ripe age of 84, and was the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He served as a Minister of State in the Busia regime, and played no mean a role in the development and growth of the nation’s democracy, especially under the Fourth Republican Constitution.
The programme had in attendance Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, national executive members and Council of Elders of the NPP, as well as businessmen, technocrats and traditional authorities.
Some NPP members abroad were also present to express their condolences to the bereaved family.
According to family arrangements, the late Mr. Appiah-Menkah would be laid in state on May 24, and subsequently buried at his hometown, Aboabogya, which would be followed by the final funeral rites on Saturday, May 26.
