The New Patriotic Party (NPP) first vice chairman for Asokwa Constituency in the Asokwa Municipality, Mr. Edmund Kyei, has become a hero in the constituency for helping some flood victims.

Mr. Kyei, who is noted for his generous acts, has donated an expensive water pumping machine to the people of Atonsu F-Line to help them deal with perennial flood problems, in the area.

He donated the machine after some parts of Atonsu F-Line, which is a flood-prone area, was submerged by rain waters, destroying valuable items and displacing scores of people including children.

On Thursday evening, there was a torrential rainfall in the Ashanti Region, especially in Kumasi, the regional capital. The heavy downpour led to several areas being flooded.

Atonsu F-Line was not spared by the floods; hence during a visit to the area to assess the extent of destruction by the rains on Friday morning, Mr. Kyei decided to donate the water pumping machine.

During his unannounced visit, it emerged that most of the houses at Atonsu F-Line were still flooded, making it impossible for the affected people to go about their normal duties.

Touched by the unfortunate situation, Mr. Kyei decided to donate the pumping machine to the affected people. The machine was then used to clear water from the flooded rooms within a few minutes.

Speaking with Daily Guide, Mr. Kyei expressed gross worry about the amount of precious items such as television sets, computers, household items, mattresses and fridges destroyed by the heavy downpour.

He said; “I was instantly filled with sadness after I witnessed how the rain had adversely affected the flood victims, including women and children, so I decided to use my own money to buy the machine to help”.

He said his largesse would not be a nine-day wonder. He made an assurance that he would continually come to the aid of the needy in his constituency whenever the need arises, urging the affected people to take it easy.

He, however, admonished people who are constructing houses in water ways and unapproved areas all over Kumasi and the nearby areas to desist from that. He pointed out that such weird acts caused floods when it rains.

Meanwhile, the NPP MP or Asokwa, Ms Patricia Appiagyei, also visited the flood victims at Atonsu F-Line on Sunday afternoon and she assured them of her support to help them overcome flood related problems in the area.
