There is too much pressure on Ghana’s health system due to the growth in population, Robert Cudjoe, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health (MoH), has said.
According to him, in order to reduce pressure on the health system, Ghanaians must control the rate at which they give birth.
Mr Cudjoe told Accra FM Thursday, 12 July that Ghanaians should take the family planning methods seriously as a way of checking population growth in order to reduce pressure on the health system.
Although he acknowledged that the health system needs a major improvement, he said the citizens also have a role to play by changing their attitude.
“Growth in the population of Ghana is a contributive factor for the kind of pressure we see in our hospitals these days and Ghanaians must take their family planning methods seriously,” he told show host Forson.
He added: “Apart from birth control, Ghanaians must change their attitude in order to avoid contracting sicknesses and diseases.
“I must admit that the health system in Ghana needs improvement, however, Ghanaians must also change their attitude in order to reduce the burden on the hospitals in Ghana.
“Some of the sicknesses are self-inflicted and if we can change our attitude, we will not be affected. For example, if we change our attitude toward the environment or sanitation, we will reduce the number of sicknesses we contract.”

INSTEAD OF SAYING WHAT YOU JUST SAID, MR PRO, IT WOULD BE BETTER TO RATHER CALL ON POLICY MAKERS AND POLITICIANS TO EXPAND OR INCREASE HEALTH FACILITIES. THAT IS BETTER THAN WHAT YOUR WHITE-GREY MATTER IN YOUR SKULL FAILED YOU TO SAY
Do you think you will live forever and keep your job as a PRO? Heck no, we need substitutes as the aged fades out. So the problem is not too many kids. Ghana can still be considered as underpopulated. One of the problems really is lack of planning. If you fail to plan, you fail to succeed. To sit up as a Thinking PRO, and don't talk about stuffs that incenses the populace. You are not helping yourself nor your paymasters. Tomorrow, there will be no job for the boys, and you will be gone.
PRO, It the the reason you allow people to die at your hospitals? Is that your contribution to reduce population?
I agree that high birth rate is putting pressure on our health facilities. But I want to tell you that you have not done your research very well. The factors that lead to population increases are Birth rate, lower death rate and immigration. Ghana is for Ghanaians, so why must we limit birth rate when too many foreigners are taking over our country. How many illegal Nigerians and other African and Asians are living in Ghana. Over four million Nigerians are living in Ghana Illegally. All these foreigners are using our health facilities, that is why there is so much pressure on your health facilities. So tell your government to check his boarders, otherwise in 10 years time, there will be more Nigerians than Ghanaians in Ghana. Ask yourself, the benefit as compared to the disadvantage in joining Ecowas and the African Union. Only foreiners who are robbing us with guns and taking over our jobs.
you might see that as a challenge now because you have failed to meet the sector needs go and ask your other colleagues in economics the impact of population on economic growth ?
Our women are too fertile. From 6m at independence to 30m now is not good. No wonder africans are fleeing to europe to be enslaved again. Nana should make birth control his top most agenda or free education will collapse. NHIA will also collapse. In fact even our democracy will collapse
is it wrong to have babies. what are you talking about !! we need the children for our future. go to some countries they need children. oh PRO WAKE UP. Expand your health delivery sys.
