The Head Pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil on Sunday armed his congregation with what he described as the three-pronged responses to anyone who would ask them about issues concerning himself and the collapsed Capital Bank.
"I felt that as your pastor, I owe you an explanation, to come to church and to make a statement of what my views are, so that when you go out and people come out with information, you will have a response to give to them," he said to a thunderous applause.
Graphic Online’s Donald Ato Dapatem reported that with the congregation eager with rapt attention to jot down and probably record the responses, Pastor Otabil said "these are the three statements I will make with regard to the response I want to give, which I expect you to carry along to explain what is happening.”
"My first statement is that God is good, my second statement is that, God is good and my third statement is that, God is good."
Pastor Otabil who said he was in Zimbabwe preaching at the church of his friend and an international evangelist, Tudor Bismark, during the week said he had heard of many things been said about him, regarding the bank and felt that he had to offer the congregation some information to answer whenever faced with the issue.
After this, he read a lot of Psalms in the Holy Bible and led the congregation into praises and worship intermittently making comments that reinforced the greatness of God.

I am saddened; Pastor Otabil, I think you missed a golden TEACHING MOMENT yesterday. You usually preaching about the need for Africans to take our destiny in our hands and craft our future; you are right on this point. As Chairman of the Board of Capital Bank, you were the LEADER - if the Bank has gone under, THE BUCK STOPS WITH YOU. The CEO who is involved with the day to day running of the Bank, REPORTS AND IS ACCOUNTABLE TO YOU AS BOARD CHAIRMAN and YOUR BOARD (the fact that you were a Non-Executive Chairman does not matter! ask any Governance specialist). You could used this teaching moment to tell your listeners about the need TO LEARN the culture in all areas of operation (CHAIRMANSHIP OF BOARDS), and that the fact you failed means ONLY JESUS CHRIST IS PERFECT and we all NEED TO LEARN ALL THE TIME! ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY (the harm is already done) and your listeners will learn from you and be better. IF YOU DON'T I CAN PROPHECY YOU WILL NOT ONLY REPEAT IT BUT DO WORSE! You STILL HAVE TIME TO USE THIS DEVELOPMENT AS A TEACHING MOMENT. We are all listening and watching. May the Spirit of the humble Lord Jesus be on you. Thank you.
Why don't you tell us his role...
I read it somewhere last week and I strongly support the position of the writer that "don't condemn anyone who has no history of wrongdoing until you have enough evidence supporting his guilt." May I ask the critics if, in the first place, they understand the banking system and the role of directors to be able to condemn the revered minister of the gospel for wrongdoing?
Is he saying God cause the collapse the his Bank?
I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF CHRISTIANITY IS THERE TO ENLIGHTEN MANKIND OR IT (CHRISTIANITY) IS THERE TO BLINDFOLD FOLLOWERS? SOMETIMES I GET CONFUSED WHEN PEOPLE SEE THEIR PASTORS AS ABOVE EVERY LAW OR THAT THEY (PASTORS) CAN NEVER FAULTER IN LIFE. HEY, I BET YOU THAT SOME FOLLOWERS AS THE ANGLICAN ARCH-BISHOP OF SOUTH AFRICA, DESMOND TUTU EVER SAID, PEOPLE WILL DRIVE AWAY JESUS CHRIST FROM SOUTH AFRICA IF HE (JESUS) TRIED TO VISIT SOUTH AFRICA UNDER APATHIED RULE. SIMILARLY, SOME PEOPLE IN GHANA EVEN TRUST AND BELIEF IN THEIR PASTORS THAN GOD OR JESUS CHRIST. SORRY, IF PEOPLE MAY THINK I AM BLASPHEMING. NO! NONTHELESS! I AM NEVER !. BUT THAT IS THE REALITY ON THE GROUND JUDGING FROM THE WAY PEOPLE REACT TO ISSUES WHEN THEIR PASTORS ARE BEING BROUHT TO THE "SPOTLIGHT". LETS LOVE GHANA BEYOND ANYONE ELSE TO PREPARE GHANA FOR POSTERITY TO PRAISE US FOR OUR SENSE OF PATRIOTISM. NO ONE IN GHANA CAN BE ABOVE THE LAW.
Pastor Mensa Otabil has contributed to some extend to the failure of the Capital Bank. Many people are suffering as result of Capital bank bankruptcy. As zacchaeus did at luke19:8,he has to use even his own money to pay the victims. It is the only way he could say again" God is good". But if it is not done, the "Victims cries will hunts him forever"
Can Otabil exonerate himself from the rot? At least when they had the financial support from taxpayers fund,m they decided to travel first class whereas the bank itself had no money of its own. Was that a wise decision to misappropriate the tax payers funds? How much are we paying again to support depositors? Instead of saying something sensible, he is just annoying us. God punish evildoers.
I just wish all those supporting otabil blindly can have some modicum of respect and sympathy for those affected by the decisions of the board of the dissolved banks. They do not, out of ignorance, appreciate what it means to loose one's life savings because of the reckless behavior of otabil and his entire board. Workers of these banks are been sent home and some are dying out of shear shock and threat of poverty! You think we are joking here? This is about the survival of lives! The collapse was not just due to a single bad decision but a calculated grand scheme to defraud depositors with the full assurance and comfort that they won't face any consequences. How can any sensible person justify the wanton dissipation of funds among cronies and associates meant to support a collapsing bank? Where have you ever heard that liquidity support for a bank in distress was diverted to other sources with part of the money used to setup another bank?
@Kofi, I am not supporting wrongdoing. Yes, like you, I too have a conscience. You can go on and on about the poor, the desert and appeal to emotions. The simple premise of my argument is that without the full facts crucifying Otabil is not right. We have a default tendency in this country to assume guilt and destroy people in the absence of the full facts and I think this is wrong. No I think Otabil is a saint? hell No! Do I know what his specific role at the bank was? No! Do I know his specific actions in the said scandal? No! Unlike you, I will wait till I know the full facts before accusing him of wrongdoing.
Of course we know God is good but what you superintended over wasn't good at all! Is otabil telling us if his leadership of the board had led to laurels he would attempt to disassociate himself by the flimsy excuse of not being involved in the day-to-day running of the bank? You would have seen him with his pontifical message of generational thinking and transformational leadership stuff. Now in its stead we have spectacular failure and deception of depositors!
