An injunction application case seeking to prevent authorities of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from converting two male halls of residence a mix, has been thrown out of court.

School authorities on Wednesday, August 15, 2018, announced that, with effect from the 2018/19 academic year, all six halls of residence of the University would be converted into mixed halls.

The school had earlier converted the two all-male halls; University and Unity Halls to mixed halls; a move which was strongly opposed.

Subsequently, they decided to change all six halls into mixed ones.

According to them, the decision was “in line with the university’s policy of periodic review of residential accommodation for students.”

However, Alumni of the halls who were not happy with the decision, sought an injunction application against it.

The court presided over by Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo stated that the applications came after the University had allocated accommodation to students who had admissions as a result, granting the request by the plaintiffs will cause inconvenience for the fresh students who had already secured accommodation at the University.
