Government is embarking on vigorous decentralisation of the Scholarship Secretariat in the country to enhance access to the services of the Secretariat by scholarship applicants.

The government of President Akufo-Addo has also settled outstanding amount of Ghc 128 million being owed by the Scholarship Secretariat to beneficiary students.

The Registrar of Scholarship, Mr Kingsley Agyeman made this known when officials of the Scholarship Secretariat and the MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri Hon Frank Annor-Dompreh interacted with students in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri District in the Eastern region.

Mr Kingsley Agyeman said the Scholarship Secretariat established in 1960 by Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah was lacking facilities such as computers and other office machines, but the government of President Akufo- Addo has now provided the necessary facilities to the Secretariat to enable it function effectively.

According to Mr Agyeman, government has introduced a Local Tertiary Scholarship scheme under which fees of beneficiary students are paid, of which Ghc10 million has has been paid so far for beneficiary students.

He added that the Scholarship Secretariat is going to allocate Ghc 300,000 for the local tertiary scholarship programme for students in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri District to promote education in the district.

The MP for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Hon Frank Annor-Dompreh said the advanced countries have reached where they are due to provision of quality education to the youth, hence the decision by President Akufo-Addo to introduce the Free SHS policy.

Frank Annor- Dompreh advised students in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri District to take advantage of scholarship schemes in the country to further their education.
