A 60-year old farmer from the Nkoranza South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, James Obeng Boateng, has been adjudged the 2018 National Best Farmer.
Mr Boateng was presented with a GH¢ 480,000 cheque by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the 34th National Farmers Day celebration held in Tamale.
Mr Boateng, who has been farming for the past 18 years cassava, cocoyam, cereals, okro, pepper, garden eggs, mango and cashew; as well as rears cattle, goats, sheep and manages two fish ponds as well as 100 boxes of beehives.
He has a total of 102 employees comprising of 45 full time workers, 55 casual workers and 2 others from his family.
In a citation, the overall best farmer was described as a philanthropist helping to renovate teachers’ bungalows in the district.
He is also a former 1st Runner-Up at the awards organised in the Nkoranza district of the Brong Ahafo region.
Madam Charity Akotia from the Central region and Alex Frimpong from the Eastern Region were adjudged 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.
