The Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil has slammed the Police Service accusing the security agency of having misplaced priority in terms of requesting for tools to make them efficient in discharging their mandate.

According to him, at a time the Police Service lacks basic effective communication equipment to facilitate their work, the Police administration rather requested the government to buy them brand new air-conditioned saloon cars.

“List how many ministers we have in Security, it is so distressing I don’t know what to say. We have over 16000 police officers, they have over a thousand vehicles and I’m not saying they are well resourced. I’m a friend of the Police and I’ve always said when I travel they are the best in West Africa. But I’ve had meetings with some senior police people and I’ve told them something I’m going to say here. You ask for the wrong things, we just bought $10milion worth of vehicles and you don’t have communication equipment, who does that. Does that make sense? Kofi Bentil said on Joy FM’s News File show while commenting on the death of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein Suale.

The IMANI Veep blamed recent killings in the country on lapses in the security system.’

He urged the Police to build capacity to rapidly respond and get to the bottom of such incidents.

Ahmed Hussein a partner of renowned investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck by gunmen on motorbike in Madina, Accra while driving home on Wednesday night.

He was one of Tiger Eye investigators who had his picture circulated by Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong in his ‘who watches the watchman’ anti-Anas video documentary and called on the public to deal ruthlessly with him whenever they came into contact with him and promised monetary reward for the perpetrators
