Ghana Signs "Single Largest Investment In Road Sector" With China

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah, has announced the signing of a Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between the Government of Ghana and Sinohydro Corporation Limited, China. 

The Minister made this announcement when took his turn at the ‘Meet the Press’ series organized by the Ministry of Information on Tuesday.

Describing the agreement as the ‘the single largest investment in the road sector in recent times,’ Hon. Amoako-Attah further lauded the agreement as a progressive arrangement which would not have been possible without a visionary and forward looking Government.

He said several roads had been identified for funding under the program based on their strategic socio-economic significance. He added upon completion, the projects would be expected to enhance intra-urban, regional and national traffic flow and trade. 

The first phase of the agreement is expected to see work done on some 442 Km of roads at an estimated cost of $500 Million.  Under the agreement four Inner City roads namely the Accra Inner City Roads, the Kumasi Inner City Roads, the Sunyani Inner City Roads, the Western Region and Cape Coast Inner City Road would be worked on.

The agreement would also result in the upgrading of selected feeder roads in the Ashanti and Western Regions, the rehabilitation of the New Abirem-Ofoasekuma road, construction of Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodi-Pepesu as well the Tamale Interchange and the PTC Roundabout Interchange in Takoradi.

The Minister further announced that the second phase of the project is scheduled to commence in June 2016 and would include the newly created regions. Sinohydro Corporation Limited facility for road and other infrastructure projects in the country was passed by Parliament in December, 2018.
