The Ghana government, on September 18, 2019 started the payment of compensation to custodians of lands along the Western, Greater Accra and Eastern railway project.
This comes after the Minister for Railways Development, Joe Ghartey assured earlier that government will ensure that compensation packages are paid before the end of this year.
According to the sector Minster, the acquisition of these lands and other structures would ensure that residential and commercial properties are 50 metres away from the railway tracks.
Mr Ghartey told Peacefmonline.com that the compensation packages are being budgeted as part of the entire project cost.
He explained that the compensation however comes in three different categories; thus, owners of lands, owners of structures along the track and farm owners.
