The Ghana Union of Traders' Associations [GUTA] has criticised ECOWAS for failing to step in to get Nigeria open its borders with neighbouring West African countries, which were recently closed.
The Association's President, Dr Joseph Kweku Obeng in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’ described ECOWAS as a "useless" and "toothless" organisation for its failure to persuade Nigeria.
“It’s a useless organization, it doesn’t actually exist. I am telling you, they are toothless,” he told host Kwesi Aboagye.
Nigeria is said to have closed its borders in a move by the government to stop about 45 products from being smuggled into the country from other ECOWAS member states.
This has caused many businesses millions of cedis.
