Former President Jerry Rawlings is the latest to have added his voice to the deteriorating roads in the Volta Region, notably, the road leading to the capital, Ho.
While travelling to the Regional capital on Thursday, to commiserate with the family of Chairman of the National Democratic Congress there, Henry Ametefe, on the death of his wife, Mr. Rawlings stopped over at Sokode within the Ho municipality to express his disappointment over the state of the road in that part of the region.
He said he experienced a similar situation when he visited Hohoe a few weeks ago.
Residents and motorists in the Region have been impatient about what they say is the government’s delay in continuing road projects, which were abandoned after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took up government.
Numerous road projects under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration were put on hold by the current government, pending the results of audits to ascertain whether due processes were followed in the award of those contracts.
In addition, the government also stopped the construction of roads that were captured under the cocoa road programme across the country as part of a rationalisation exercise.
Some of the abandoned roads that have become a major concern to the people are Jasican-Kejebi, Nkwanta-Kpassa, Nkwanta–Dambai, Peki through Kpeve–Hohoe roads that form part of the Eastern Corridor Road Project.
The rest include Atsito-Fiaxo road, Todome-Kpalime through Tongor–Dzemeni, Vakpo-Wusuta Kpebe and a dual carriage road from Sokode to Ho among, many others across the Volta and Oti regions.
Meanwhile, the government says works on roads in the Volta Region would be completed by the end of 2020.
“For the whole Eastern Corridor road we are doing, most parts of it will be done in 2020. A lot of the Eastern Corridor road passes through the Volta Region so you cannot talk about roads in 2020 without talking about the Volta Region,” the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo, told Citi FM.

I AM TEMPTED TO BELIEVE THAT THESE ROADS IN THE VOLTA REGION WERE DONE BY THE NDC ONLY FOR THE NPP HAVE COME AND UNDONE IT. WHAT AT ALL WERE THEY DOING IN THEIR SO-CALLED WORLD BANK DURING THE EIGHT YEARS OF THEIR GREENBOOK DECEPTIVE GOVERNANCE? THE REALITIES ARE NOW HERE AND THE WORLD BANK OF THE NDC SHOULD FACE IT.
Have you noticed that anytime this man cries he cries for VR. He either donates to someone from VR or to a Volta town. Has he forgotten that other regions are experiencing the same.
My point is how much did their ndc party leave for the npp to continue with their so called abandoned roads? that 8s the question they should ask their party and what resources come from their area for them to blame a government they hate to use to construct their roads? they should understand their ndc party didn't construct any roads in Ghana to the finish ,they just deceived them for votes when they asked contractors to go on the field just to deceive the people something was being done! if your ndc meant business they should have left money like Papa Kuffuor left for projects he didn't finish what are you talking about? if your mother ignored you food do you blame her rival for your hunger? what logic is that and at least you should appreciate what the npp do for you because you don't vote for them to give you good things so don't blame anybody for your bad roads if they weren't fixed in 8 years how can they in 3 years? change your attitude in Ghana to appreciate even your enemies! you don't blame them for your woes when your party couldn't do it for you but deceived you ! they couldn't even finish with one road from you to point at but you are rather blaming the npp to use others resources to construct your roads when Western North has no good roads but lots of natural resources come from there ! the money your people stole from the state during ndc period could have constructed all your roads!
the NDC should have done all the volta Region roads. the NDC did not contruct the Volta roads because voltarians can not change their minds. there would always vote for the NDC. The NDC party do not have to persuade voltarians to vote for it. it is the world bank. how can you pay for something which is already your. NPP should use the funds to develope first, the cocoa roads and the Northen sector roads. the nothing really comes from the volta region so it should be the last to be develop.
You and your corrupt (P)NDC was in power for 27 years..... Tell us the roads you constructed in the Volta Region. Hypocrates.... Tell your people to vote for the NPP for better development of the region.
Rawlings, hmmmm. This is your record after 19 years of misrule
Lets use logic here, the strong Home of the NDC crying for help with regards to their poor roads within 3 years of NPP government, NDC spent good 8 years in power, why didn't you attack them to fix those roads? I just cant think far...…. It's good we change the way we do our politics, but the question is, are we really gonna do that? Ghanaian politics is a big mess and a doom!
Dear Voltarians, You gave 100% vote to mahama and ndc parliamentarians for 8years, they could not fixed your deplorable roads in 8years, yet you expects vulnerable NPP in Volta to fixed your roads in 3 years. What kind of logic is this? Turn your anger to your MPs not vulnerable NPP. #change your voting pattern and enjoy more good roads from npp which they have already started doing.
Your mother's mother is most PITIFUL.
YOU ARE PITIFUL!
