Minister for Parliament Affairs and Majority Leader Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has denied the argument that the NPP is likely to lose the 2020 election without a new voters' register.
According to him, a statement he made in parliament has been taken out of context by the opposition NDC.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that the New Patriotic Party is more than capable of winning the 2020 general elections with or without a new voters' register.
A new voters' register he says will only enhance the electoral fortunes of the country as it has been recommended by the Electoral Commission.
He said the NDC should understand that as a sovereign country the Electoral Commission is independent and cannot be coerced by any political party to sing to their tune.
"What I want the opposition NDC to understand is that the NPP will win power hands down whether or not a new voters' register is compiled," he said.
Members of the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voter Register (IPRAN) flooded the streets of Tamale Saturday morning to demonstrate against the compilation of a new voters' register for election 2020.

Founder and leader of the APC, Hassan Ayariga, Minority Leader in Parliament Haruna Iddrisu and the MP for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini took part in the demonstration dubbed ‘Tikusayi’.
The demonstration which was the first of many to be held across the country was led by NDC’s National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and the National Chairman for the PNC, Bernard Mornah.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has stressed the need for the compilation of a new voters' register for the upcoming general election, adding that the exercise is not a waste of resources.
The EC in its quest to compile a new voters’ register said it is committed to judiciously spending the about GH¢400 million it was granted by Parliament.
But the opposition parties have stated they will do whatever is within their power to resist the new voters’ register.
