Colonel Festus Aboagye (rtd) in the wake of another reported attack at the State Transport Corporation (STC) in Ho in the Volta Region has called on the government to reach out to the leaders of the secessionists' group in negotiation and mediation to find out the legitimacy of their struggle.
According to the Security Analyst, engaging the leaders of the secessionists in a dialogue at this point in the situation is critical in preventing possible heightening of catastrophic acts in the Volta Region and other places in the country.
Speaking on News Desk on Joy News, Col Aboagye (Rtd) insisted that the paving way for communication to exist for both the leaders of the secessionists and the government to churn out their concerns must be considered.
“Negotiation and mediation do not only seek to find solutions. Sometimes, it’s for purposes of communications . . . we need to find out the legitimacy of their struggle and who they represent. They also need to understand us as Ghana,” he said.
He added that he does not see why dialogue which has been the best and effective approach for many countries in Africa with such confusion cannot work out in Ghana’s case; stressing that such a measure should be adopted alongside the deployment of security logistics and use of intelligence to thwart any impending attacks.
“But it doesn’t mean when you’re talking, you stop short in deploying your military tools. So, we must combine all of these,” Col Aboagye added.
The security analyst again suggested that all these strategies must be given in detail and championed by the President at a national level to install the confidence of Ghanaians in terms of security.
“It is not sufficient to over the last few days, have the Information Minister talking, Regional Minister talking, a police superintendent talking and you don’t get the national strategy and it’s not authoritative enough.”
