A video falsely claiming to show Barbara Kyagulanyi, the wife of Uganda's main opposition presidential candidate Bobi Wine being harassed by security officials, has been widely shared online.
In the video, the unidentified woman is seen having an altercation with security officials, who try to block her entry into a venue.
But the woman shown on film is not the wife of Bobi Wine and her appearance is noticeably different from Ms Kyagulanyi, BBC East Africa head Rachael Akidi confirms.
One tweet sharing the video, which has received almost half a million views, uses it to urge people to vote against President Yoweri Museveni in Thursday's elections, in which polls have now closed.
The false story has also been picked up by online blogs in Nigeria and Ghana, and was also re-shared by Nigerian superstar Davido to his more than eight million followers on Twitter.
The video appears to have been taken at a wedding, likely within the past year, as people can be seen wearing masks.
Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, appeared together with his wife to vote as he challenges 76-year-old President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled Uganda for 35 years.
Neither Bobi Wine nor his wife has commented on the video.
