Zambia’s President Edgar Lungu on Wednesday visited Dr Kenneth Kaunda, the country's first leader, as he marked his 97th birthday.
Mr Lungu said he appreciated the liberation icon's "immense contribution" to Zambia.
“Sir, we thank God for everyday of your life”, he said as he led his delegation into singing a birthday song.
"Dr Kaunda is not an ordinary person but a true definition of a pan-Africanist, a true blessing to mankind," Mr Lungu later posted on his Facebook account.
Dr Kaunda, who led Zambia from 1964 to 1991, said Mr Lungu’s visit was touching.
