NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary, Sam Pyne has advised the Military personnel deployed to mining communities to remove illegal miners not to become corrupt.
The President has ordered two hundred (200) soldiers to undertake an operation in the mining areas of Ghana.
A statement issued by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah read ''in furtherance of the resolutions of the final communique, of the Stakeholder Dialogue on Small Scale Mining on April 14 -15, 2021 and to ensure that mining within water bodies is immediately stopped; the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorized the Ghana Armed Forces, to commence an operation, to remove all persons and logistics involved in mining from Ghana’s water bodies.
"The operation commenced at 0600 hours on Wednesday, April 28th, 2021 on the River Pra in the Central and Western Regions of Ghana. Two Hundred (200) officers of the Ghana Armed Forces are involved in the operation.''
Alluding to reports that some members of the anti-galamsey taskforce, Operation Vanguard, received kickbacks and shirked their duties, Sam Pyne urged the 200 soldiers not to repeat the actions of the Operation Vanguard members.
He advised them to undertake their task accordingly without any compromises.
"There are reports that during the last Vanguard and other taskforce operations, some of them went on money-seeking. We need to be very blunt and honest with ourselves. So, will the soldiers deployed not also go after money?
"They should execute their task in love for the country'', Sam Pyne said during Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' on Thursday, April 29.
