The Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Bawumia has funded the empowerment journey of some youngGhanaian women to participate in the East African session of the Young African Women Congress (YAWC) 2022 to be held in Kenya later this month.

The Vice President is also expected to deliver a solidarity message at the event which will take place from 22nd – 25th May, 2022 at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, Kenya.

The young ladies will join many other young women from different parts of the continent of Africa and the diaspora to share ideas and discuss topical issues affecting the development of women in Africa and proffer practicable solutions. They would be engaged in keynote, panel sessions, group sessions, training workshop, capacity building session and varied presentations led by astute women leaders from across the globe. They will also have the opportunity to enjoy the flora and the fauna of some parts of Kenya as part of the event.

The Vice President, sharing his delight in assisting the young ladies, reiterated his commitment to promoting women’s development as a sure way of accelerating development in Ghana. He was optimistic that the exposure will produce some consciousness that would propel the ladies to rise above any form of limitationto impact the nation in the most prominent ways.

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) is an annual residential congress that seeks to bring together women of African descent to deliberate on key issues pertinent to women’s development. The Congress, since 2016 has empowered over a thousand women through keynotes, plenaries and other boardroom engagements.

Nonetheless, one of the most important aspect of the congress is the network that it creates to ensure that the flame which is ignited during these sessions is not quenched. The YAWC Network is gradually becoming the biggest and the most impactful network in Africa, leading campaigns and mobilising girls and women at the grassroots for a more inclusive approach to the transformational journey of Africa.
