Olam Agri, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Ghana) and the flour-baking community, has successfully planted more than 100,000 saplings in Northern Ghana, the global agribusiness leader announced today in commemoration of this year’s World Environmental Day.

The tree-planting initiative is driven by the company’s purpose of transforming agriculture for a more sustainable future, with carbon emission reduction being one of its top priorities. This initiative aims to sequester 1,000 MT of CO2 and contribute significantly to the Green Ghana initiative by the Ministry of Lands and Resources.

This initiative has significantly benefited over 57 communities, individuals, and institutions by reducing the amount of carbon stored in the atmosphere. With this initiative, Olam Agri also hopes to enhance the quality of the air and the general improvement of the heat conditions in the region.

In addressing the aim of this initiative, the head of Olam Agri’s grains business, Baibhav Biswas, remarked, "We are proud to be working alongside the EPA and the baking community to help mitigate the impact of climate change in the country. At Olam Agri, we are committed to promoting sustainable agricultural and environmental stewardship, and this project is a testament to our unwavering support for this course."

"As we celebrate World Environment Day 2023, we call on all stakeholders to join us in our effort to deal with climate change and promote sustainable development. Together, I believe that we can build a more resilient and sustainable future for our planet," Biswas said.
