Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has raised concerns over some findings in the ongoing parliamentary probe involving three senior Police officers; Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr George Alex Mensah, Superintendent Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and Superintendent George Lysander Asare, accused of plotting to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
The officers have made some shocking revelations about the Police administration.
Among the revelations is COP Alex Mensah telling the Committee in Parliament how senior Police officers of the Service including himself have been lobbying for the position of the Inspector General.
He recounted how he had since 2017 tried to get the opportunity but it has always slipped through his fingers.
IGP Dr. George Dampare is accused by the officers of working against the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) to lose the 2024 election and also of nepotism and mistreatment of Police officers.
Addressing the issue during Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kwesi Pratt found the kind of lobbying in the Police force extremely worrying.
"Telling someone that you should be appointed as IGP is not wrong. To say it is you who when you become IGP, Ghana will improve is not wrong, but to tell someone to make you an IGP so you can rig elections, there is a major problem with that. So, the issue is not lobbying; the issue is the intention behind the lobbying," he exclaimed.
He also feared the NPP/NDC divisions in the Police Service may spell doom for the nation, so called for necessary action to be taken to end these divisions.
