The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed allegations that his presidency would permit Fulani herdsmen to damage farmlands.
He categorised these accusations as propaganda from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), suggesting that the opposition is attempting to spread fears that a vote for him would lead to lawlessness among the Fulbe community, with whom he shares familial ties.
While addressing supporters in Ejura Sekyedumase on Wednesday, 13th November 2024, Dr Bawumia reassured residents that his leadership would ensure the equal and fair enforcement of Ghana’s laws.
He stressed that his presidency would not tolerate any unlawful activities, regardless of an individual’s background or ethnic affiliation.
Dr Bawumia emphasised his commitment to upholding the rule of law, countering the notion that his ties to the Fulani people would lead to preferential treatment.
He highlighted the importance of unity and fairness in governance, promising to prioritise the interests of all Ghanaians without bias.
The NPP flagbearer urged constituents to disregard the claims from the NDC, portraying them as attempts to sow division and distrust.
He concluded by pledging that his administration would protect Ghana's agricultural sector and ensure that the nation's farmers are safeguarded from any potential threats, emphasising a firm commitment to the country's development.
“Now the NDC is running propaganda that my reign will permit Fulanis to destroy the farmlands, but that will never happen, it’s all propaganda we will never allow it to happen."
“The law will deal with each and everybody. So please don’t listen to such propaganda that we will allow the Fulani to destroy your farmlands.”
“They will be arrested if they are caught. We are bringing Development with benefits to the town. Give me the Power and you will testify to that," he vowed.
