Reverend Seth Acquaye, Resident Pastor of the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Kokomlemle, on Friday, urged Christians to focus on spiritual battles rather than physical ones.
Rev. Acquaye in a sermon at a church service to usher in the New Year said: "2010 would be a year of spiritual warfare and people who would rely on Jesus Christ would be more than conquerors."
He cautioned Christians that the devil would shift focus from the current global environmental and economic problems to spiritual warfare.
Rev. Acquaye said the enemy would come in various forms to attack Christians and asked them to be vigilant to be able to subdue the devil's treachery which would manifest in the form of anxiety, sicknesses, division and dissatisfaction.
Rev. Acquaye said that obedience to God was the only armory for Christians against Satan's attacks and temptations.
The congregation at 12 midnight started praying amidst singing and shouting halleluiah to usher in the New Year.
