The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court, presided over by Justice William Boampong has convicted a pastor for creating excessive noise during worship.
Pastor Margaret Essel, Founder and leader of the Prophetess Nyame Bekyere Church at Atonsu-Bokro in Kumasi, was sentenced to a days imprisonment. The court has also banned the church from operating.
Mr Clement Kegeri of the Public Relations Office of KMA told the Ghana News Agency that the pastor has been operating the church without permit. She has converted her residential house into a church, creating noise pollution and had refused to heed the assemblys directive to revert the church building to its original residential purpose.
Mr Kegeri said the assembly has been inundated with complaints by residents of Atonsu-Bokro of the nuisance of the pastor and her church and that several warnings to her to stop her activities were ignored.
The closure of the church, he noted, would allow the people to enjoy their peace.
