Within a short period of four months, the head pastor of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr Pastor Mensah Otabil, continues to show love to the underprivileged and financially handicapped members of his congregation.
Since the beginning of this month the church has engaged in various programmes to commemorate its 30th anniversary celebrations.
Pastor Otabil has yet extended another gesture to the genuinely needy members of his congregation donating 200 different shades of anniversary cloths to those who were unable to buy them.
The cloths were sold at GH10 per yard.
The various designs of cloths with varieties of motifs do not have the church’s logo visibly embossed on it making it possible for those who bought them to use them for other social or religious events apart from activities of the ICGC.
The beneficiaries of this gesture from Pastor Otabil, who is also the founder of the church and his wife, Joy, received two yards each of the anniversary cloths.
A source at the church told The Mirror that when the announcement was made on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 during its communion service, inviting those who could not buy the cloths to step forward, there was a mad rush by members who gleefully came and grabbed their share of the cloths.
Besides, the church last Wednesday, February 26, 2014 (which exactly marked the 30th anniversary of Pastor Otabil’s entry into the Christ Ministry) witnessed another generous activity where a lavish party was thrown for the over 600 members of the church, as well as non-members, who wined and dined on the premises of Christ Temple, the headquarters of ICGC.
Additionally, The Mirror gathered that the church had made it a matter of principle to share proceeds from the Communion Service, organized on the last Tuesday of every month, among the needy members in the church.
The first of such gesture was reported by The Mirror in its November 2, 2013 edition, which stated that the genuinely ‘broke’ members of the church were invited during one of such Communion Services held on October 30, 2013 to step forward and pick cash from the offering baskets to meet their financial needs.
That invitation, The Mirror reported, attracted a loud roar from the members of the congregation, who were pleasantly surprised by the gesture from their leader.
The climax of the month-long celebration will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 2, 2014.
Dr. Pastor Otabil, who started his ministry on February 26, 1984 is considered to be the epitome of sacrificial lifestyle and wisdom with problem-solving abilities.
He is also a mentor and role model to pastors, leaders and countless people of African descent across the globe.
When The Mirror asked what motivated Pastor Otabil to show this kind of love to his church members, a source explained that the pastor had been doing a lot for the members of the congregation and other individuals and organizations on the quiet.
According to the source, the cardinal philosophy of Pastor Otabil is to share whatever he has with the poor and needy in society.
