The Convention People's Party (CPP) has sent its warmest greetings to all Muslims in their Festival of Sacrifice, an occasion for reflection.

According to the party, “the Holy Month of Ramadan is once again upon us and we join the entire nation in wishing our Muslim brothers and sisters the very best and pray for Allah's continued blessing.”

In a statement, the party said the fast began the quest for the emergence of a clean soul, which was free of all evil habits.

“It is also the perfect moment to usher spirituality, peace and brotherhood, a celebration of devotion, dedication, sincerity and honesty which the ardent disciples show during their fast,” the CPP stated.

In the view of the CPP, Sheikh Dr Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, has always noted that peace is one of the virtues of Islam and urges Muslims to see Ramadan as an obligation and live peacefully with others. “It is a call that applies to all our citizens,” the party said.

The CPP also acknowledged the deep historical links between the party and the Muslim communities and recalled that Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of the party and tradition, enjoyed great collaboration with the elders and members of the Muslim community throughout his time in office.

“Ghanaians have different faiths, so we have to jealously guard our present secular state. Everything should be done to promote peace between our different communities. We ask our brothers and sisters who are fasting for prayers and blessings so that peace and stability will continue to prevail in Ghana and Africa,” the CPP stated.

According to the CPP, “we need prayers and sacrifice to help us overcome recent trauma of violence and murder in our land, for justice and peace in Bimbilla, and for wisdom and self-confidence to deal with our economic hardship.”

The CPP believes in the principles of equality for all and a fair distribution of opportunity regardless of faith, religious persuasion, ethnicity or gender. We believe in an open and diverse society in which there are no discriminatory practices against any Ghanaian.
