The church of England has appointed a 48-year-old woman named Reverend Libby Lane, as the first female Bishop ever.
The Rev Libby Lane, 48, is the new Bishop of Stockport. She is set to be consecrated as the eighth bishop of the town at York Minster on January 26.
Speaking about her historic nomination, Rev Lane said: �I am very conscious of all those who have gone before me, women and men, who for decades have looked forward to this moment.
�But most of all I am thankful to God.�
Prime Minister David Cameron said: �Congratulations. An historic appointment and important day for equality.
