There is uneasy calm at the Akyem Abuakwa branch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, following an attack on the Akyem Abuakwa Presbytery chairman, Rev Ansah Peasah by some irate youth of the church.

The youth are accusing Rev. Peasah of nepotism and mismanagement of the church and are therefore calling for the dismissal of their chairman.

They alleged that the leadership style of the Presbytery chairman is collapsing the church in the Akyem Abuakwa Area, in particular, Anyinam Victory Congregation.

To push their agenda, the youth at the Anyinam victory congregation on Tuesday petitioned the moderator of the Presbyterian Church to this effect. However, attempts by the aggrieved youth to again petition the accused chairman ended up in their arrest.

The Presbytery chairman, Rev. Peasah reported their ‘violent’ behavior to the Police which led to the arrest of six members who thronged his house under the pretext of petitioning him.

The youth were put behind bars for almost 24 hours at the Kibi Police Station, but were granted bail on Wednesday morning.

One of the aggrieved church members, Adansi Pittim told the DAILY HERITAGE in an interview that "My brother, the leadership style of our chairman is ungodly and dictatorial. He is running the church like Secondary School; the church is collapsing."

According to him, the leadership style of the chairman has provoked anger among the church members, especially, the youth. “So the youth petitioned the moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey on Tuesday.”

They said on their way back to Anyinam, they decided to serve the same petition to the accused chairman at his residency at Kibi. However, to their surprise; six of them were rounded up by the police.

Their arrest followed a report to the police by the chairman that the youth had besieged his house to attack him.

The Kibi Police Command has granted bail to the suspects and has advised the church to resolve the issue through its structures to bring sanity into the House of the Lord.
