The Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old taxi driver to 16 years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing arms.

The court presided over by Mrs Lorinda Owusu, found Daniel Narh guilty after prosecution proved during the one year trail that he committed the crime.

Narh pleaded not guilty to the charge of preparing to commit robbery.

Mrs Owusu also ordered that the weapons should be confiscated to the state.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Matilda Tetteh told the court that police patrol men in June 2008 spotted an Opel Astral taxicab with registration number GT 6715 Y parked at the shoulders of the road near the Greenwich Presbyterian Church, Tema Community One.

She said the personnel got suspicious when they detected that the taxi has no rear number plate.

The prosecution stated that the three occupants of the car which included Narh took to their heels when the personnel went to them to question them about the missing number plate.

Prosecution said accused who was chased and arrested was brought to the car and a search revealed one barrelled short gun, a pump action gun all fully loaded with ammunition, an axe and a military cap.
