A renowned Ghanaian model and CEO of EXOPA Modelling Agency, Ibrahim Sima, has been arrested on suspicion of trafficking drugs suspected to be cocaine out of the country.
The EXOPA boss was busted at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, on the night of Monday, 7th September 2009, on a tip-off.
According to security sources at the airport, Sima, who was about to board a Lufthansa flight to Germany, was arrested after a random search was conducted on him. He was first called out from the queue to provide a urine test.
Interestingly, try as he did, Sima could not provide the sample, as he claimed he was under too much scrutiny, a situation which caused his bladder not to “function”.
PEACEFM's Entertainment Review Producer, Eugene Osafo-Nkansah, who was at the offices of the Airport Police, quoted police sources as saying that the EXOPA Model Agency CEO was then ordered to offload his luggage, where a thorough search revealed a hidden compartment inside four tubers of yam, where the cocaine was found.
Undetectable, the “head” of the tubers of yam had been professionally sliced opened, and refixed quite expertly, after the suspected drugs had been inserted in the secret compartment.
When the yams were detached, it revealed a hole which was filled with a whitish substance. Further checks conducted in his presence, proved that the whitish substance in all four tubers of yam was cocaine. The cocaine was said to weigh about 5kg.
Upon interrogation, Sima claimed the substance was given to him by one Salifu at Nima, to be given to someone in Germany.
Sima Ibrahim hit the limelight as a popular Ghanaian model based in Germany. He returned to Ghana a few years ago to establish the EXOPA Modelling Agency.
Sima, recently organized the first ever three day fashion festival dubbed; “The EXOPA Fashion Weekend”, a show graced by the presence of popular Hollywood actor and fashion designer of Ghanaian descent, Boris Kudjo.
Ibrahim Sima is currently in the custody of the Narcotics Control Board pending further investigations.
