Okogyeadee Yaw Adusei III, Omanhene of Sankore in the Asunafo District of the Brong Ahafo Region, has expressed worry about the proliferation and use of arms among the youth in the area, leading to violent clashes in the area.

He therefore appealed to the security agencies to clamp down on people possessing illegal weapons and retrieved them to improve on law and order.

Okogyeadee Adusei who was addressing a press conference at his palace at Sankore on Monday explained that the use of firearms in the traditional area had also contributed to political tension and loss of lives in the 2008 General Election.

He cited the shooting and killing of one Kofi Ebenezer during the electioneering campaign and called on the security services to clamp down on the miscreants.

Okogyeadee Adusei said the volatile situation had given Sankore a bad image and stalled development, adding that without peace, unity and understanding, development would elude the people.

The paramount chief asked the people to co-exist peacefully to facilitate socio-economic progress.

Okogyeadee Adusei denied media reports that he was the brain behind the violence that characterised Election 2008 in the area.

He said he organised a number of public forum to educate the clergy, members of the district security council, assembly members, chiefs and the youth about the importance of ensuring peace before, during and after the elections.
