Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has asked parents whose wards benefit from the School Feeding Programme not to deny their children food at home because they would be fed at school.

“The school feeding programme is not a substitute for your responsibility to feed your children at home before they leave for school,” the MCE stressed.

He gave the advice when he led a team, including Ms Vivian Etroo, Municipal Director of Education, to welcome some newcomers to school in line of the “My First Day at School” Programme.

Mr Hayfron said if for certain reasons feeding was delayed, the children who did not eat at home would have to endure hunger till the time food would be ready. “This does not encourage good academic work,” the MCE pointed out.

He reminded parents of their responsibilities towards nurturing the nation’s future leaders.

Ms Etroo advised the children to see school as their second home and also as a place where their future depended on, and make every effort to learn hard.

She advised parents not to regard children as people who knew nothing and therefore resort to treat them any how. “Children admire beauty and therefore become dejected when they are in tattered uniform or do not have exercise books and pens to work with,” she said.

The team visited schools in Biriwa, Akraman, Asafra, Essarkyir and Esuehyia and distributed “[email protected]” cups and biscuits to the newcomers.
