Police Boss Is Dead

The Ghana Police Service and the entire Dansoman Community have been thrown into a st ate of shock and sorrow following the sudden death of the Dansoman Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Alex Yartey Tawiah.

Supt Tawiah was said to have died at the age of 58 at the Police hospital last Saturday around 10:00pam after he was rushed there over complains of chest pains. Speaking to Daily Guide at their Gbawe residence, the second of three children of the late Police Chief, Freda Tawiah, said on Saturday September 19, 2009, their father in an attempt to answer a phone call after taking his bath fell down. “After the fall, my father complained of dizziness and requested that he was left to rest for a while to gain strength to continue his official duties which was he was preparing to attend.”

According to Freda, a fresh graduate from the University of Ghana, Legon, her father after resting for while, asked the family to take him to the police Hospital because of some pains he was feeling in his chest. “He was rushed to the hospital where he passed away peacefully at after five hours of treatment,” she added. Freda poured praises on her father, saying, “My father was all we had, he never discriminated, he was disciplined and always wanted the truth.

Supt. Tawiah left behind a wife, Madam Esther Quarter Papafio, three children, namely Fredericka Yartey Tawiah of judicial service, Freda Tawiah and Justice Tawiah and five adopted children. Some police personnel at the Dansoman Police Station who were particularly disturbed over his death said they found it difficult to come to terms with the reality that he had really died since he was with them a day before his death. Describing him as an affable person, DSP Ofori said the entire police administration had lost a great hero who would forever be remembered.
