The Vice-President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, has urged Muslims to let peace reflect in their lives and in their relations with others, since Islam is a religion of peace.
He made the appeal when he joined the Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Vice President Mahama said without peace, the government cannot provide the good roads, hospitals, good drinking water and well-equipped schools needed.
He commended Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a for their efforts in complementing government’s efforts at national development.“This is particularly important as it is widely acknowledged that Muslim communities are the most deprived in the provision of social infrastructural services. Yet, ironically, we are quick to destroy the few facilities that we have at the slightest provocation. I would like to urge all of us to practice tolerance, mutual respect and understanding in order to promote development and progress,” Vice President Mahama added.
Sheikh Mar Ibrahim Imam, National Imam of the Ahlussunna Wal Jama’a said his group had for the past years done all it could to complement government’s efforts at national development.“In an effort to heighten that, I recently let a team which embarked on a nationwide tour to brainstorm with the leadership of the Muslim communities on how to solve the perennial illiteracy, ignorance and poverty associated with it,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the government for all the support it has given to the Muslim community, since it came to power.
He was particular happy that the Vice-President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, joined them on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr celebration at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.According to the Chief Imam, it was the first time that a very top government executive had honoured their invitation to celebrate with them.
