Action Aid, Ghana, an international non-governmental organization, on Monday handed over a rehabilitated two-room counseling facility to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit(DOVVSU) of the Police Service in Brong-Ahafo.

Presenting the keys of the building to the Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Seth Charles Oteng, The Regional Manager of Action Aid, Ms. Christina Amarchey, commended the police for their dedicated service.

She stressed that the gesture by her organization was in line with its commitment to helping to reduce poverty and injustices among the people, especially women.

Ms. Amarchey said the NGO's interest in the rights of women, majority of whom faced injustices, made it to partner DOVVSU to give the office building a face lift to encourage more women to report cases relating to domestic violence.

DCP Oteng expressed gratitude to the NGO and and said the facility would be well maintained and used for the intended purpose.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Kweku Amoako, regional coordinator of the DOVVSU, said the office faced numerous challenges in its operations accessing medical care for abused victims due to expensive bills.

He said lack of official vehicles and failure to establish the Domestic Violence Fund, as stipulated in the Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007, were other problems and called on the government, individuals and corporate organisations to assist.
