An eight-member Techiman Municipal Disaster Management Committee has been inaugurated with a call on members to liaise with key stakeholders in order to respond effectively to disasters and emergencies.

The Committee, under the chairmanship of the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, was advised to work in collaboration with civil society organisations on disaster prevention and management and traditional authorities.

Other members of the Committee comprise representatives from the National Disaster Management Organisation, Ghana Health Service, Information Services Department and security agencies and Members of Parliament.

Inaugurating the Committee, Mr Joseph Nyarko, Brong-Ahafo Regional Coordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said the organization would continue to deliver its constitutional mandate of managing disasters and emergencies nationwide in a professional manner.

He explained that the Act that established NADMO enjoined it to form committees with the responsibilities of preparing plans for municipal and district assemblies to prevent disasters.

Mr Labib Tibreel, Municipal Co-coordinator of NADMO noted that disaster brought untold hardships to the people and called for massive public education on the prevention of man-made disasters.

He advised members to work hard in the course of their duties to help mitigate the number of disasters in the municipality.
