A 14-year-old class six pupil of Peduase Lodge Primary School at Kitase in the Akuapem South district of the Eastern Region, Yaa Foriwaa, popularly known as Yaa Dompreh, had died mysteriously, sparking rumours of her being a victim of ‘sakawa’ or a blood money ritual.

The easy-going girl on Friday, January 15, complained of pain in her chest and heart. By Monday, January 18, her condition had deteriorated so sharply that she passed away the following day.

She was buried over the weekend amidst wild allegations that a junior brother of her father had a hand in her death. The reasons, according to sources, was that the deceased was seen in the company of some boys very late in the evening at Kitase just a few days before her ‘strange sickness’, suggesting that the boys could have gang-raped her.

The girl’s uncle was said to have admitted that he knew the boys who were with his niece on that particular night, but he would not name them. People have also questioned, without adequate justification, the source of the wealth of the 25-year-old uncle of the girl who allegedly owns cars and houses at Kitase.

Even though Yaa Foriwaa consistently denied being raped by the boys, doctor’s reports from the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital where she died allegedly stated that the girl was raped. Mother of the girl, Afua Obuo, confirmed to the Daily Guide that she was blood in her daughter’s panties after her death and when she was being prepared for the mortuary.

“I find it difficult to understand why my daughter, who had all the attributes of a promising actress, should die under such strange circumstances, and I believe God will definitely expose those behind my daughter’s death,” she cried.
