The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has filed an application for interlocutory injunction at an Accra High Court, in a bid to restrain the Advertisers Association of Ghana (AAG) from mounting new advertising billboards, remounting fallen billboards, upgrading existing ones or changing the artworks, pending the final determination of the suit brought against them by the AAG.

The AMA also wants a mandatory order of injunction to pay all outstanding annual outdoor advertising fees as per the fee fixing resolution adopted by the AMA in 2010, as gazzetted by the AMA byelaw in accordance with Local Government Act, 1993 (ACT 462).

In an affidavit in support of the motion filed by Ken Brookman-Ammisah and Associates, counsel for the AMA, dated June 16, 2011 in Accra, AMA said the respondent, AAG, since the commencement of the case against it over alleged exorbitant fees, has refused to pay the approved annual fees aforementioned, contrary to the Local Government Act.

The AAG has in the substantive case filed a suit against the AMA over what the association members called exorbitant fees charged for billboards and signboards adverts within the Accra Metropolis after the assembly threatened to pull down the billboards.
