President John Mills says his administration recognizes the enormous sanitation, water and environmental challenges confronting the country.
He has promised his administration is determined to surmount these challenges, saying the surest way to go is to invest in science and technology.
Speaking at the first Ghana Science Congress, the president said he was happy Ghana is making strides in the provision of potable water.
He however, charged the Community Water and Sanitation Agency to speed up the process of drilling boreholes in areas lacking potable water. He said as far as the MDG target of halving the proportion of the population without access to safe drinking water by 2015 is concerned, Ghana was on course.
President Mills further stated that the science congress showed the premium his administration put on the sector and the recognition that it was science and technology that would propel the development of the country.
