Paul Tampah, an 18-year-old illegal gold digger, has been jailed four years in hard labour by a Tarkwa circuit court for stealing gold valued at Gc3, 400.
He pleaded guilty. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant, Frank Mensah lived with Tampah at Nsueam.
On September 2, the complainant kept Gc 900 and gold valued at Gc3, 400 in his bag and went to work. When he returned in the evening from work he detected that someone had entered his room and made away with the money and the gold.
The Prosecutor said the complainant suspected Tampah and reported the case to the Police. On September 14, the accused Tampah was arrested from his hideout at Cape Coast by the complainant and was handed over to the Nsueam Police.
Inspector Paddy said the accused admitted the offense and told the Police that he only took 800 Ghana cedis and sold the gold for 190 Ghana cedis.
